Arriving in Vung Tau

Most new teachers fly into Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City) and take a two-hour bus or car south along the coast. The View TEFL Academy arranges airport pickup and accommodation orientation for Vung Tau graduates. Unlike Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau is a beach city with a slower pace, familiar with Western visitors, and easy to navigate.

Week One: The School Introduction

Schools typically schedule an orientation week before your first solo class — observing experienced teachers, reviewing lesson materials, doing mock lessons. Vietnamese students are well-disciplined and highly motivated. Classroom management is frequently easier than new teachers expect. Class sizes are 8–20 students. Lesson plans are often provided by the school for the first weeks.

Daily Life

Language centres run morning adult classes and afternoon/evening children's classes — many teachers have free mornings. Breakfast at local cafes runs $1–$3. The beach is 10 minutes from the city. Weekend trips to Con Dao or Phu Quoc are popular. Dinner at local restaurants costs $2–$5. Used motorbikes are available for $300–$500.
